A strong outside shooter who takes pride in his defense, Alton 2020 Andy Morrison put together a strong performance at the second annual SWMOBasketball Future50 Camp & Showcase in March and is gearing up for his senior season.
A 5’8 guard, Morrison is a patient player who plays with good pace. He likes to get his teammates involved, but is a knock down shooter when open.
He says he is spending the offseason working on improving his overall athleticism and his ball handling.
Coming off a 14-14 season in which the Comets battled several key injuries, Morrison says he is looking forward to a big year on the hardwood in 2019-20.
“Our team last season had quite a few ups and downs,” he says. “We battled a bunch of injuries and never had the whole team healthy and playing together at the same time.
“But through all that I think we finally turned the corner there at the end of the season. Our chemistry has stayed strong sense we’ve all been a team since the moment we picked up a ball.”
When he’s not playing basketball, Morrison says he enjoys spending time with family and playing baseball and during the summer he also works at the city pool as a lifeguard.
He says the biggest influence on my basketball career to date has been his teammates.
“They push me to be the best I can be,” Morrison says. “There’s days where I’m
just not feeling it or my shots off and I always know there going to have my back. They always want the best out of me.”
A fan of the OKC Thunders Paul George, Morrison says he appreciates the NBA standout’s intensity at both ends of the floor.
“His defense is one of the bests in the league and he plays his own style of basketball,” Morrison said. “He isn’t alway flashy and does the gritty work night in and night out. I try to excel at the defensive end of the floor like he does.
“Defense is probably the most important aspect of the game for me. Drawing charges and getting deflections help get us fast break points so it always helps to lock your man down defensively.”
