An incoming freshman guard for Hollister, 2023 Ethan Wright is looking forward to competing for a varsity spot for the Tigers next season. He likes to play at a fast-pace, pushes the ball in transition and looks for easy chances to score.
He says Hollister head coach Pete Leonard has encouraged him to focus on improving his defense this offseason.
“Leonard expects complete commitment to the defensive end,” Wright says. “Offensively, it’s continuing to get in the gym and work. Trust my abilities as an all-around player.”
Wright says his junior high team at Hollister started slow last year but was able to win six of its last eight games and entered the offseason with plenty of momentum for the future,
“Unfortunately, we got off to a slow start, yet, continued to believe and work,” Wright says.
Wright says when he’s not playing basketball he enjoys hanging out with friends and playing baseball. He says his dad has had the biggest impact on his baseball career to date.
“He basically introduced me to game and has taught me the game of basketball,” Wright says. “He constantly pushes me to be the greatest player that I can be.”
A fan of Kyrie Irving, Wright says he has take various elements of his game after the Boston Celtics point guard and hopes to make them his own.
“ I have modeled my game after his with my ball-handling, getting to the rim and the ability to create my own shot,” Wright says.
