A 6’3 2019 small forward, Riley Oberbeck who is coming off a strong offseason while competing for the MBA Flight 16U squad.
Oberbeck is a long, rangy wing player who can handle the ball, shoot from the perimeter and gets to the basket well.
“I play hard and leave it all out on the court,” he said. “I improved my ability to get to the rim and finish better. I have gotten stronger so that has helped.”
A year ago, Oberbeck was a starter and key performer for Strafford as a sophomore. The Indians put together a winning record with a young team and have high expectations for the upcoming season.
He says this was his fourth summer of playing competitive travel basketball and says it was a positive experience.
“This year we have played some really good teams with really tough defense,” he said “I know that experience will help me in the future.”
Oberbeck says he is looking forward to playing Mid Lakes rival Fair Grove, a team that knocked off the Indians in the district playoffs last season.
A fan of LeBron James, Oberbeck says his family has had the biggest impact of his basketball career to date.
“My family, they always push me and encourage me,” he said. “They tell me what I did good but give me advice on what I need to work on.”
Although he does not yet hold any college offers, but hopes that will change in the season ahead.
“I plan to put more hard work into my off season,” Oberbeck said. “I’ll just wait and see what God has planned.”
