VERONA — An aggressive and skilled player, Verona 2019 wing Twilah Carrasquillo is among southwest Missouri’s premier small school players.
At 5’10, Carrasquillo is an inside-out player who can score in the paint or defend a post player, but is skilled enough to handle the ball or shoot from the 3-point line.
“I’m a very aggressive player,” she says. “I hustle on offense and defense. I have a very positive attitude no matter what the outcome of the game is. I give it all I have, and try to do my part.”
After a summer competing with Yanders Law and working out with former Missouri State standout Rob Yanders, Carrasquillo says her game has improved since her sophomore season.
“I’ve become a way better shooter than I was last year,” she says. “I’m looking to get on the court this year and show everyone what I have improved.”
Carrasquillo is still looking to improve various aspects of her game as she enters her junior season, including creating shots off the bounce.
“I’ve been working on shooting off the dribble,” she says. “When I am moving fast and when I just pull up. I want to get really good at making a basket anywhere on the court. I’ve been spending a lot of time working on it. Hopefully I look better than I did last year.”
Carrasqullo says her older sister has had the biggest impact on her basketball career and says she is a fan of Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook,
“I love watching people that hustle,” she says. “Russell Westbrook is always hustling and giving it his all. I like the way he plays. I try to play with his intensity.”
