LEBANON, Mo. — The inaugural SWMO Basketball Future 50 Showcase brought together many of the region’s top players last Sunday at Lebanon High. Here is a look at the Class of 2022-23 players at the event. The players are listed by the team they played on and their jersey number.
Team F — ATOMIC BLUE
2 — Jordan Moore, East Carter, 2022
Moore is great used her body to create shots off the glass. She puts her shoulders down and feels for an opening. She has a thin frame, so she has to be creative when she’s going against players more suited for play close to the basket. That said, Moore holds her own. She has a quick first step and can catch opponents looking. A lot things going her way.
3 — Cassie Chadwell, Norwood, 2022
Chadwell plays hard. She fights for rebounds and can score off second chance baskets. A Norwood player who plays smart and does her best to keep her hands up on defense while earns buckets on the other side. She understands where she can make the biggest impact and she follows through consistently. From what we’ve seen, her hard work goes a long way.
4 — Skyeler Layman, Crocker, 2022
Layman impressed us on both sides of the floor. She can knock down shots on the run and defend quick players. She runs the floor well and doesn’t give like it when opponent get an uncontested look. Layman was one of the first players on her team to set a game speed, something that helped team Blue jump ahead early in games.
5 — Josey Adams, Lamar, 2022
The shooter from Lamar does not shy away from a look. Kid is a quick athlete who likes to let it fly from deep. Adams likes to have space between her and her opponent. If someone is too close to her and she has the ball she can dribble in and pass it out. If they give her room she can pull up and make a jumper. A Lamar player to look out for.
6 — Kori Cromer, Marshfield, 2022
Cromer knows how to run the floor. She likes to sneak away from defenders and find a shot when few are looking. She is a quick player who likes to avoid contact when she has the ball. She can shoot well and handle the ball if she needs to make something happen. She also looks to pass and keep the ball out of harm’s way.
7 — Maelynn Garrett, Neosho, 2023
Garrett is a versatile player who can make things happen with the ball up top and fill out the wing position. She has a good shot and can handle herself when the defense gets organized and tries to trap her. Garrett brought good energy to the court and worked well with her teammates right out of the gate, displaying an unselfish style of play.
8 — Zoe Reel, Crane, 2023
Reel is a scorer. Plain and simple. She brings size and athleticism to the floor in a way that is very difficult to stop. When she has the ball and has her eye on the goal, players had better look out. Reel can score in transition with ease and finish through contact. Reel gives it everything she has. She wore down the more she played, but that didn’t stop her from contributing buckets.
9 — Laney Humble, Sparta, 2023
Easily one of the top ball handlers in Carr gym, Humble can split defenders with ease and get to the basket. She has a hesitation to her game that is hard not to fall for. She has a good flow to her game, someone who is great at finding her way to the basket. She can also pull back for a 3-pointer and shoot with confidence. Humble is going to be a great addition to Sparta basketball.
2-Riley Boggs, Ozark, 2022
Boggs turned heads Sunday with her sharp play on both sides of the floor. She hustles on defense and can create things for herself on offense. She’s timely – an athlete who makes a habit at being available when she’s needed. Boggs isn’t going to let you down. She has a high basketball IQ and the game to back it up.
Team H — GREEN
0 — Reagan McInturff, Neosho, 2023
A tall player who can spot up and make quick passes to cutting teammates. She has experience down low and knows to keep the ball high and out of reach. Mclnturff looked better the more she played. She made good decisions to start, but she processed the game better the more she played with her teammates. We like what she can do on the floor when she’s in the zone.
1 — Hannah Evans, Gainesville, 2022
Evans is a tall player who knows how to defend and fill any gap her team needs. She gets low and her long arms help her block shots and control things around the glass. She has good height and can also jump well – a hard combo to match-up against. Evans plays a basic game at a high level. She fakes, finishes, and rebounds like she’s played her whole life. We’re impressed.
2 — Kayleigh Teeter, McAuley, 2022
A flashy creator who sees the floor well. This is great for a player her size. She may not have height on her side, but she can shake off defenders and find her way to openings. We’re also impressed with her fight around the rim. A player capable of pulling down a rebound and taking it the distance. Teeter always appears to be having a good time. She can sink big shots and make smart passes across the board.
3 — Landry Stuart, Forsyth, 2022
A smaller player who moves well off the ball. Stuart is great at coming off screens and creating her own shot. She has the ability to bring the ball up the floor and she likes to pass to her teammates and play wide on the wing. She made some good buckets Sunday – a few that were difficult to get off. A good young player.
4 — Leah Reichert, Carver, 2023
Reichert earns her stripes by staying active on defense and finishing on the other side. She has a lot of energy and isn’t likely to take a possession off. Kid can shoot, too. She has a nice jumper from 10 feet and can knock down 3s if she has the look.
5 — Brittany Gilliland, Republic, 2022
An extremely talented guard who knows how to create for others, Gilliland makes passes that leave spectators shaking their head and clapping their hands. She can zip around defenders and stop on a dime. She’s also a fine shooter. Her mechanics may look strange, but she gets the bounce or nothing but net. An impressive talent that should be on your radar.
6 — Kaylee Helton, Miller, 2022
Helton is a high-energy player who likes to stay close to her opponents on defense and finish quickly on offense. She’s a tough athlete who can handle pressure. She runs the floor well and likes easy buckets on fast break looks. She can take it for herself and create for herself. She worked especially well with Gilliland. The two seemed to know where the other was on the floor at all times. A solid two-way forward who is sure to turn heads.
8 — Hannah Wigger, Alton, 2022
Wigger fought hard on both sides of the floor. She’s a nice player who can collect herself in high pressure situations and knock down a jumper from almost anywhere on the floor. She also plays good defense. She consistently moves her feet and does her best not to let opponents get the best of her.
Scarlett Alcorn, Van Buren, 2022
A solid player who can guard opponents taller than her and score in bunches. She fights along the baseline and can come up big when she is in position. She has a good feel the floor, someone who can fight through screens and move well in a motion offense. She also gives it her all in the paint when the ball goes up.
