The 2020 Future 50 Camp and Showcase, held at Strafford Sports Center on Sunday August 16th, was a huge success and overall a great experience for the players and their respective families! We saw a lot of great players from the area do their thing, with a good portion of the games being very competitive, particularly on the high school side. And now, we get to write about each of the players.
Here, we take a look at some of the older players on the girls side. This will be the first of several parts we will be publishing over the coming days. The players for the most part are listed in order of the numbers they were assigned at the camp.
Kamari Ouck, 2021 Parkview, 5’9 – Ouck has a high basketball IQ and an uncanny knack for making shots around the basket at odd angles. She is strong and has great footwork, a combination that makes her adept at pulling off nifty spin moves close to the rim. She can also knock down the 3 with regularity. Ouck is just a versatile player and can defend or play any position on the court. Also a solid rebounder, ball handler and passer. Look for a big senior season from her at Parkview. Her all around skills and physicality is getting Ouck plenty of college looks.
Megan Becker, 2021 Crocker, 5’11 – Becker has good size and strength and is an excellent post player and cleaner of the glass, on both ends. She does the things coaches love like boxing out and taking charges. She is also a good defender and especially did a good job of getting back quickly and defending against transition in the paint.
Taigen Mitchell, 2022 Neosho, 5’2 – MItchell is a high energy guard who plays a gear faster than most others do. She strives on the offensive end by getting to the rim off the dribble, and can knock down the outside shot when open as well. Good ball handler as well and can lead a team from the point guard position.
Anna Church, 2023 Washburn, 5’0 – Church is small, but her diminutive size doesn’t stop her from slashing to the rim well off the dribble and drawing contact from slower defenders. She is a high motor player who isn’t intimidated or fazed by bigger opponents.
Carolina Crawford, 2023 Willard, 5’4 – Crawford is a quick and shifty guard who plays with a flair, thanks to her superior ball handling and passing skills. A lefty, she can score at all 3 levels and will be looking to transition towards being a varsity level point guard very soon at Willard. She also got high marks for her defensive effort.
Meghan Campise, 2023 Crocker, 5’6 – Campise is a smart and scrappy player who made her presence felt on the boards, especially on the offensive end, where she would clean up missed shots by teammates. She’s not the biggest player on the court but her high basketball IQ enables her to constantly be in the right place at the right time. Still developing her confidence as a shooter and scorer.
Ashlyn Jones, 2022 Willow Springs, 5’3 – Jones has been pegged as a “coaches dream” thanks to her relentless effort and competitiveness, especially on the defensive end. Despite her smallish stature, she can flat out guard. On the other end, she can score at all 3 levels and makes the smart pass. She can be the leader of a team and set the tone with her effort and motor.
Tara Masten, 2024 Parkview, 5’3 – Masten dominated at the junior high level in school ball and was one of a handful of players who played up with the older group instead of with girls her own age. The southpaw showed that she merited being placed where she was, handling the ball very well and making the right pass. She played unselfishly and seemed mostly content with setting up her older teammates, and she got high marks for her play on the defensive end. Make no mistake about it, she can also score, and will be doing plenty of it the next four years.
