The 2020 Future 50 Camp and Showcase, held at Strafford Sports Center on Sunday August 16th, was a huge success and overall a great experience for the players and their respective families! We saw a lot of great players from the area do their thing, with a good portion of the games being very competitive, particularly on the high school side. And now, we get to write about each of the players.
Here, we take a look at some of the older players on the girls side. This is one of several parts we will be publishing over the coming days.
Kendrick “Bug” Bailey, 2021 Hollister, 5’5 – Bailey is an all-around guard who makes plays on both the offensive and defensive ends. She is quick and reads the passing lanes very well on defense. Offensively she can break down her defender with the dribble with her deceptive hesitation move, finish through contact, pull up for a floater or step out and hit deep threes. She is adept at making the right decision off of high screen pick and roll situations and strives to get her teammates involved. One of the better varsity guards in southwest Missouri, she is in line for a big senior season at Hollister.
Josey Adams, 2022 Lamar, 5’7 – Adams showed off her versatile offensive skills, either stepping out and knocking down threes with a nice shooting form, or attacking the basket off the dribble. Has good size for a guard, and her size also enables her to move over to forward, giving her an advantage over defenders less quick than she is. Also blocks out well on rebounds.
McKenzie Hamilton, 2023 Hollister, 5’6 – Hamilton is an aggressive player who can play physical around the basket, but can also guard the perimeter well. On offense, she can handle the ball well and find open teammates and can run a team from the point guard position. Knows how to run the pick and roll. Her perimeter shooting has improved markedly and with continued improvement on offense she will be a superb all around player. She works hard, has a great attitude and is very coachable.
Kaitlyn Washington, 2023 Willard, 5’4 – Washington’s athletic ability is a head turner. She is super quick and anticipates well, getting her hands on a lot of balls. Whenever she gets the ball on the wing she can blow by her defender and get to the rim. Had a lot of crafty finishes on the fast break as well. High motor player who makes life difficult for whoever she is defending as well.
Skyeler Layman, 2022 Crocker, 5’6 – Layman showed a good all-around game on both ends. Has some good post moves, but can also knock down 3’s and hit the mid-range jumper. Thrives in transition and likes to get up and down the court. Strong rebounder and passer as well.
Madyson Majors, 2023 Nevada, 5’3 – Majors is a quick guard who plays bigger than her size. Got some tough rebounds near taller players and pushed it in transition. A good, unselfish point guard who can direct her teammates to open spots and feed them the ball. Has a nice looking shot as well.
Elaina Foster, 2023 Crocker, 5’4 – Foster has a good shot and an even better attitude. Does whatever her coach asks her to do and plays very hard, will continue to improve her all around game with practice and experience. Has all the intangibles that coaches love.
