SWMOBasketball takes a look at several senior guards who are putting together a strong season.
Hunter Gray, 6’0, G, 2019, Mansfield (pictured)
Gray has passed 1,000 career points this season and has shown the ability to help the Lions space the floor, handle the ball and break down a defense. He is one of four Mansfield players averaging double figures as he is scoring 10.5 points per game and shooting 53 percent from the field. Gray leads Mansfield with 24 3-pointers and had show 41 percent this season from behind the arc.
Isaiah Bean, 6’0, G, 2019, Spokane
A strong player who sees time as a forward and a guard. Bean has a solid frame and a deep ball that can come back to haunt defenders. He is money when he finds his stroke and can get his shot off quickly. Bean is also a fine floor runner. He stays away from the ball and cuts inside in search of a lay-up.
Troy Froeschle, 5’11, G, 2019, Reeds Spring
A smart defensive minded player who moves his feet and stays in front of the ball. Froeschle has a tough nature and he doesn’t give opponents many free looks. He stays in the tail and looks to force steals and finish on the other end. He can also play well on offense. He moves off the ball well and can score from behind the 3-point line.
Eddie Gutierrez, 5’9, G, 2019, Verona
Gutierrez is a solid guard who looks to score when the ball swings his way. He is a quick shooter and a confident one. He doesn’t worry about his shooting percentage or previous plays. He looks to keep Verona in the hunt and he’s proven he can handle the pressure of big moments.
Justin McMillen, 5’11, G, 2019, MCE
McMillien is a good ball handler and scorer who has a lot of responsibilities. A team leader for several years now and a shot creator for himself and his team. McMillen moves well and can get his shot off when defenders are breathing down his neck. He’s spent years doing this and he can handle it and put up good numbers.
Michael Milhizer, 6’0, G, 2019, Licking
A strong guard who plays with determination. Milhizer has an excellent frame and the speed and grit to take the ball inside and find a basket through contact. Milhizer can score from outside but he prefers to get close to the basket. He’s also a good passer and has good vision. A player who brings a lot to the court and can be counted on to make a good decision when it matters.
Reece Parish, 6’1, G, 2019, Eminence
Parish doesn’t get as much attention as he deserves. He’s a good shooter who can score in the mid-range and from behind the line. Eminence is loaded with talent and Parish is a shooter opponents have to game plan for. A lot of the attention is on interior players and Parish is a knockout punch from deep who can also take the ball inside.
Jaden Spindler, 5’11, G, 2019, Bolivar
A slasher who can score through the air and in odd situations. Another important piece for Bolivar on both ends of the floor. He is constantly in motion and can disappear from defenders if they aren’t careful. He has a good shot from deep and can connect from any area behind the line. As long as he has the look, he can score from the corner, wing and the top of the perimeter.
Kamron Stacey, 6’0, G, 2019, Fair Grove
An important scorer who makes things happen offensively. He can read a defense well and can get anywhere he needs to be on the floor. He has a great hesitation to his game and can crash the board and clean up plays as well. Stacey is a talented player who does whatever he can to put his team over the top.
Kyle Stacey, 6’0, G, 2019, Fair Grove
A smart player who works just as hard on defense as he does on offense. He stays close to opponents and can come away with steals in his team’s full court press. Stacey is also a slasher on offense. He can slip to the basket, score in transition and shoot well from the 3-point line.
